What makes a static ad work on Meta in 2026?
By Denzel Geng · Updated October 30, 2026
A static ad works on Meta when one image does one job at a glance: the product in frame, one big line of text and, when you have one, the offer on the image itself. In ViralMojo's study of 22 long-running Meta statics from 17 brands, all 22 showed the product, 20 added text to the image and 10 put an offer on it. Pick the format by what you have to say: an offer, a problem, news, proof or a comparison.
The 7 static formats brands keep running
| Format | What it looks like | Fits best when |
|---|---|---|
| Offer-first | The offer (a discount, price, code or something free) is the biggest thing on the image | The offer is the reason to click and is easy to state in a few words |
| Problem headline | One big line names a problem or objection; the product sits beside it | Buyers have a known hesitation you can answer in one line |
| Launch or restock | An announcement line (new, back in stock, it's here) over the product | You have news: a new product, a new look or a restock |
| Proof on the image | Awards, a star rating or a customer quote on the creative itself | Third-party proof exists and fits in a badge or a short quote |
| Chart or diagram | A comparison chart, size-vs-size layout, icon feature list or hand-drawn diagram | The product needs one comparison or a few features to make sense |
| Lifestyle photo, one line | The product in use with a single short line of text | The product is easy to recognise and the photo carries the mood |
| Packshot | The product is the picture, with little or no added text | The product looks good on its own |

What the long-running statics have in common
The product is in frame in all 22. Twenty of 22 add a headline or other text to the image itself; the other two let the product's own label speak. Ten put an offer on the image: eight a price, discount, code or value figure, and two a free bonus or a welcome offer. Six show someone else's proof, such as an award, a star-rated quote or a retailer's name. And 13 of 22 are served as 9:16 verticals.
Read together, that's the recipe: the buyer should know what the product is, why to care and, if there is one, what the deal is, before they've decided whether to stop scrolling.
A real example: the old price beside the new one
Athletic Brewing
Static image · offer-first · 9:16
“KEEP THE PARTY FRIDGE FULL FOR LESS”
Running since Jun 23, 2026: 117 days as of Oct 18, 2026.
An aqua background with confetti, the headline, then a price strip, "WAS $13.99 → NOW $10.99", and four stacked 6-packs. The struck-through old price next to the new one shows the size of the saving without any maths, and a small-print line on the image sets the limits of the offer.
Static or video?
Brands run statics more, not less. In the mid-August 2026 pool behind the study (each of 200 brands' top five ads by impressions), 544 of 1,000 ads were static images and 456 were videos, and the statics had been running a median of 49 days against 44 for the videos. Cheap formats also earn their test slot more often: in Motion's 2026 data, product image plus text had an 8.75% hit rate against 6.87% for high-production video.
To make one, start from a static that's already winning for someone selling to your buyer and remake it with your product and your offer, or generate statics straight from the research on your product.

Vertical 9:16 is the most common shape among long-running statics: 13 of the 22 in our study are served that way, 5 are square and 2 are 4:5. Make the vertical first, then a square or 4:5 crop for feed.
Usually, yes. Twenty of the 22 long-running statics in our study add a headline or other text to the image; the two without it are packshots where the product's own label does the talking.
